Which riding style do you prefer?
out of curiosity, do you prefer western or english riding more?
i like to ride western because it’s the traditional way and it’s the style that is more conducive to work,(like herding livestock) instead of just pleasure.
the main reason i like western riding is the fact that the riding is more carefree and natural, whereas,english riding has a lot of fussy bells and whistles. no offense to english riders.
when i say “traditional” i mean horses being used for work. horses were used in farming and other areas of work long before they used them in battle.
I like both. Each one has pros and cons and each discipline can learn something from the other. Like, english riders could learn to ride with a looser rein and western riders could learn a better sense of balance. Neither is wrong or right and which I prefer depends on what I am doing that day. Personally, for just riding in general, I like going bareback. I hop on my 3 year old filly, tie her lead rope to use as reins with her rope halter and off we go. I get a certain sense of freedom by riding this way.
